"Mississippi Mini-Mega"

Reshceduled for June 10-17, 2011

Postponed until June 10-17, 2011

For Immediate Release:

The 2010 Mini Mega scheduled for June 4-11th in Ocean Springs Mississippi has been postponed by organizers in the wake of the Oil Spill off the Gulf Coast in MS, LA, AL and FL. This has been done in
the best interest of the sailors, locals and the event itself and feel
that a postponement was the most logical and beneficial plan to follow
given the uncertainty currently going on in the region.

For those that have prepaid, if you would like to carry your entry fee forward to the new date, you will be encouraged to do so. For those
that require a refund of money paid, please contact Chris Wessels at xanderwess@yahoo.com
641-425-8720 to request your refund.

The HCA-NA board has approved the postponement date as June 10-17, with all other aspect of the regatta to remain the same. Updates and
information can be found at http://2010nationals.ning.com

We apologize for this inconvenience and hope you'll make plans to attend the Mini-Mega in '11. Contingency plans for the classes North
American Champs are now being considered with bids being worked on at
this time, more information to follow as it comes in.

"Mississippi Mini-Mega"

After Hurricane Katrina, the Gulf Coast near Biloxi was decimated, including the OSYC and the 90 bridge, running form Ocean Springs to Biloxi. Both have been restored beautifully, and the Yacht Club has recently opened to its sailing and social members.

Hotels are within 1 mile and camping is close as well. We are currently in negotiations with a a hotel within .5 miles and also looking at RV parking and tent camping.

Fleet 70 is a newly reinstated fleet based out of the Ocean Springs Yacht Club, which is primarily a catamaran club and will be the host fleet. Ben Wells and Chris Wessels, of Division 7 will share in organizing duties for this event, working with the membership of the YC in putting on a fantastic week of sailing.

The plan is to race Waves and 14s Friday Sat and Sun. Then 17 and 18s Monday - Friday.
Matt Bounds will be PRO and the rest of the RC will be made up of OSYC volunteers. All regatta meals and social functions will take place at the yacht club. Meals are scheduled for Friday and Sunday nights for the Wave 14s, and Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday for the 17s and 18s. Juice, fruit and carb foods will be available in the AM all days and lunches can be purchased from the YC for $5/day per person.

This event is designed to be a very relaxing week of sailing in a very relaxed atmosphere. The food is being prepared to reflect local cuisine and specialties.
The wind is expected as an average near 10 kts, with air temps. averaging 77f. As you can see from the pictures, it is a remarkable place for an event like this.
